M J Rutter - Shadows Lost

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Susan

Returning home after twelve years away may be the best and worst decision writer Andi Harper could make. Too many things left un-said and too many goodbyes put on hold. When she finally faces the truth aided by her best friend in the world Mike, she rekindles her love affair with childhood sweetheart Laine, after a life time of believing that when things are too good to be true, they usually are, she is just waiting for it to be snatched from under her and her world to crash down before her eyes.

What a compete journey Melissa Rutter takes us on in Shadows Lost.  I read this incredible story in under 24 hours because I just had to know what was happening next.
The story of Andi and her relationship failings, see her run to her childhood friend, Mike. But during their recollections we travel back to a happier time and delve into Andi's past and meet her first love, Laine.

After 12 years of "living" a trip back down memory lane would see an old flame reappear. But would he be the same man she knew? Would they feel that instant pull they had?
A devastating loss would turn poor Andi's life upside down...but she wouldn't be left alone. She would be left with the the gift of the man she fell for.

In amongst this terribly grief filled time, Mike, her best friend poses a question to be there for her. But in more of a sense that she was capable of accepting. But would she be able to see him in a different light? Could their once friendship morph into love?

What I adored Andi for was her absolute resilience and strength. She never faltered at all the obstacles in her way. Her character was one of great strength, courage and pure love.

As her relationship with Mike seems to take a spiral a new work colleague would turn her head. Giving her the final answer to know things needed to change and answers were needed. The truth that Mike had with held from her during their friendship/relationship would be yet another reason for her to reconsider that she needed to be alone.

But oh lord the ending. Cliffhanger central. Be warned! I swear I am on the edge of my chair and staying there for the duration until I read the next installment of this mind blowing read.
The characters were incredible, the story line faultless, the story flowed consistently (if not too bloody well because I couldn't put it down!) and what more can I say but wow.

Melissa Rutter blew me away in this incredible 5 star book. Highly recommend!

Cathy Jackson - Broken

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Susan

At best love is complicated with one man.
I have two.
One is my fiance and the other is his brother.
Both want to win my heart.
But I want what God wants.
I can only hope He knows what's best, live in His will, and follow His teachings.
My name is Evelyn Miller.
This is the story of how I became a Westerling.

The third book in the 'bloom' series by Cathy Jackson continues following the Westerlings we have grown to know and love. But this time from the point of view of Evelyn...a good friend Pheonix met through the church group. We see the troubles of Evelyn who has been left by her ex with two young children and is back living with her parent whilst she finishes her nurse training.

The bond between Pheonix and Evelyn touched me, as the pair grew close through the story. Evelyn would however have a quandary on her hands with the Westerling brothers. David, the good, honest and respectable man, church deacon and crush on Evelyn and loved her children, or the rogue, younger brother who Evelyn mostly couldn't even hold a conversation with in the early stages. But felt much more of a connection with despite knowing the troubles he came with...

The magnetic draw I felt to the youngest and most dangerous Westerling was strong. It was seducing me, but I resisted it.

But as the story developed we see the respect and Christian values the other stories have. How their faith has seen them all through some awful times, but also how Johnny was not following that same path....

Evelyn worked solidly between her parents, young children, friends and studying and future career. She truly was a brilliant woman who dealt with anything she had thrown at her but with her new found friendship with Pheonix and John, she felt truly settled after her treatment from her Ex.

I may have lost a husband, but I gained a family.

As Evelyn and Jonathon (Johnny) continues and we see the true depth of the family rift that seems so deep, Evelyn is kept in the dark as to the reasons surrounding them, but recognises that he needs them and by sheer determination does everything in her power to fix the Westerling brothers relationships and in turn help him.

You don't think I know you are trying? .... I know you are. I know that underneath that self-assured, cocky, arrogant exterior is someone who is just wanting to be loved. Not by just anyone, but by your family.

The continuing love and commitment with Joh and Pheonix is as clear as ever. Pheonix develops in her pregnancy throughout. But as Evelyn gains her trust and friendship, she tells her more about her marriage. But only snippets from her past. But she and John both recognise the feelings that Evelyn holds for the troublesome Johnny...

You just have to know that loving him is the hardest thing you will ever do in your life. He's not trustworthy and he has few redeeming qualities. He won't be dependable and you have to take him like he is.

As the story develops and we see two men fighting for her affections, Evelyn knows what the 'right' thing to do is and who will protect her, but will her heart tell her different and to go with the man she knows will cause her more heartache?

I admit I was a little disappointed at the ending of the story but we see Jonathan reaching out for his faith again despite all his past heartache and there are lots of avenues the story could take next so I am excited for the next installment. As ever another brilliant read by the talented Cathy Jackson.

S. J. Sawyer - Sealed (Sealed, #1)

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Susan

Every girl deserves to find the guy who will make her forget her heart was ever broken... Avery Bishop leaves her comfortable Southern life in Texas behind to get the hell away from the ex-love of her life, Jacks. Moving in with her friend Miranda Jones in Baltimore, she gets more than she bargained for right from the start. No sooner than her feet touch down in Maryland, she is face to face with Miranda's muscled god of a brother, Kreed, a Navy SEAL who is home on a short leave for the holiday. He's sexy and amazing, and she doesn't quite know what to do with her vow to avoid all men..especially when she meets their friend Trevor Rossi and the new professor she is supposed to aid, Dr. James Saunders. Suddenly surrounded by interested men, the only thing she knows for sure is that life will never be the same. Kreed is sucked into meeting his sister's friend at the airport, but he didn't expect to be greeted by the sexy angel that walks out of Thurgood Marshall. He's instantly attracted to her, and despite the fact that he only has a few weeks to spend in Maryland, he's determined to get to know her. It's too bad for him that his best friend Trevor is equally as interested. Suddenly, the competition is on, and Avery is the prize. The following story contains mature themes, strong language, and sexual situations. It is intended for an adult audience and is not suitable for young readers.

So the story of Avery is one I've heard before. A girl running from her last, having moved from Texas to be with friends in Baltimore. With their guidance and support she would find peace with what she had lost back home. But under no circumstances did she want another relationship... But would that be the case? After meeting a few guys, the new girl on the block turned heads and the guys fell head over heels for her. Kreed got her attention and kept it. Despite a few other guys being on the scene their attraction was clear. I was banging my head a few times wishing they would get together. I can't say I disliked the book because I didn' was an enjoyable read but the first 65% seemed long and it took me a while to start to feel the characters. But I did. And the last part of the story and how they finally start to accept what everyone else could see, despite their circumstances got me a little frustrated but there was a definite turning point in the story where I can say I enjoyed it. An easy and enjoyable read but pleased I hung in to get the rest of the story. Can't wait to read the next book 'Teased' and see where the rest goes. There are a couple of characters I still have question marks with so hope to learn more in the next part of the story. 3.5 star rating for SJ Sawyers 'Sealed'.

Suanne Laqueur - The Man I Love (The Fish Tales #1)

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Stacey

One look brought them together. One bullet tore them apart.
Winner of the 2015 Beverly Hills Book Award for romance, Suanne Laqueur's astonishing debut novel follows a young man's emotional journey to salvage relationships destroyed in the wake of a school shooting.
As a college freshman, Erik Fiskare is drawn to the world of theater but prefers backstage to center stage. The moment he lays eyes on a beautiful, accomplished dancer named Daisy Bianco, his atoms rearrange themselves and he is drawn into a romance both youthfully passionate and maturely soulful. Their love story thrives within a tight-knit circle of friends, all bound by creativity and artistry. A newcomer arrives--a brilliant but erratic dancer with an unquenchable thirst for connection. And when this disturbed friend brings a gun into the theater, the story is forever changed. Daisy is shot and left seriously injured. And Erik finds himself alone in the aisle, looking down the muzzle of a pistol and trying to stop the madness. He succeeds, but with tremendous repercussions to his well-being and that of his loved ones.
Traumatized by the experience, Erik and Daisy spiral into depression and drug use until a shocking act of betrayal destroys their relationship. To survive, Erik must leave school and disconnect from all he loves. He buries his heartbreak and puts the past behind. Or so he believes.
As he moves into adulthood, Erik comes to grips with his role in the shooting, and slowly heals the most wounded parts of his soul. But the unresolved grief for Daisy continues to shape his dreams at night. Once those dreams were haunted by blood and gunfire. Now they are haunted by the refrain of a Gershwin song and a single question: is leaving always the end of loving?
Spanning fifteen years, The Man I Love explores themes of love and sexuality, trauma--physical and mental--and its long-lasting effects, the burden of unfinished business and the power of reconciliation. Through Erik's experience we reflect on what it means to be a man, a son and a leader. A soul mate, a partner and a lover. What it means to live the truth of who you are and what you feel. What it means to fight for what you love.

In The Man I Love we meet Erik who after a few years of tinkering behind the scenes at school productions, lands a place at a top fine arts university. Here he meets Daisy and though another student (David) has fought for her affections, Erik & Daisy slowly fall in love and eventually begin a serious relationship.

"Caught up in her savage and greedy grip, he kissed her, crushed her down into the bed even as the joy in him spiraled up through the roof and burst into the sky."

Lucky is Daisy's best friend and room-mate and her affections are with Will - who over the years becomes best friends and roomies with Erik. There are so many other people within the storyline but they all blend together seamlessly within the story and so are easy to remember who is who. In Erik's junior year another student arrives at Lancaster - James.

The students of Lancaster university are in the throes of rehearsing for the spring performance when disaster strikes. James has fallen for one of the group and after a brief fling they shut him off. After having a breakdown and disappearing for 10 days, he returns to school with a gun and this is where everyone's life starts falling apart. I did see this coming but it didn't take away from the story at all as it is so well written and captivating.

"They knelt around the altar of the coffee table. Will patted David's head, and David smiled like a well-praised puppy. He was the high priest now: King David, singer of songs, bearer of gifts and bringer of comfort."

From here on in we see their futures with and without each other, but it's not at all rushed. I didn't feel like there was anything missing as Suanne touches upon everything brilliantly at one point or another. I like how their are sections for each character as it helped put their story into perspective. The whole story of The Man I Love touches upon many themes; education, sex, drugs, mental illness, but above all it is a brilliant story of growth & development - individually and within relationships in many forms; personal, sexual, family, friendship.

I can't say much more about this book without giving lots away but what I can say is that it really tugged at my emotions. As a subject which we hear about in the news and find incredibly shocking but really have no idea about, reading this book really threw me into sympathising what the characters went through and how one person can shape the rest of your life, and Suanne is a brilliant writer really drawing you in to the story. The way she writes about everything never falters, it is so strong and passionate. A definite 5/5 stars and the gain of a place in my top ten books for this year.

A K Michaels - New Beginnings (Highland Wolf Clan #3)

**Review by Susan

As the influx of Highlanders arrive in the US, Cameron’s brother Grant comes too. Intent on carrying out his brother’s bonding ritual, and returning home as quickly as possible. However, there are some surprises in store for Grant. Ones that are forever life changing, and which will test the very bonds of his friendship with one of his closest friends.
When Cam and Jinx find a young, lone, Panther Shifter in the forest, injured and facing up to an enraged bear, they do the only thing they can; they take on the bear to save the Panther. On finding out the youngster has no Pack, no family, Cam offers him a home and hopes he hasn’t made a mistake admitting a rogue Panther.
With Jacob finally getting his own bonding ritual, he feels as if he and Rebecca have passed the test of their blossoming relationship. That is, until disaster strikes and a new threat emerges; one he never envisaged.
Can the Highlanders integrate with the rest of the Pack? Will Grant accept his fate? And can Cameron keep everything together; including his multi-billion dollar enterprise?
Find out in Highland Wolf Clan, Book 3, New Beginnings by A K Michaels

The third book in the Highland Wolf Clan series "New Beginnings" is yet another astounding book by A K Michaels. I simply couldn't put it down. With no threat, this book felt different. No threats or fear. Only pure love.
As the Scottish pack fly to descend on their new land and merge with the old pack we would see new alliances. One of the characters we return to is Grant, Cams brother who comes to meet his big brothers new love, Chastity. See the woman who stole the domineering, business mans heart, who was certain in book one, pack life was not for him! Grant would be sure to find someone of his own in the old pack. Although this may be at the cost of someone else's happiness. But who could deny the calling of their bond? Their hearts would "beat as one" and it was literally meant to be.

Our main Alpha, Cam and Chastity would keep this story and the pack strong. Picking straight back up with their love for one another. Chastity would truly become the she-wolf Alpha. We would see three pairs including Cam and Alpha being formally bonded with their loves.

The love flowing between the couples was clear for everyone to witness and the Pack whooped, screamed and clapped...

The love and compassion in this book was just brilliant. And boy was the pre and post marital sex hot? Yes!! But brilliantly written. My heart filled with pride for all the new love forming with the new pairs as this pack was growing. Made for a happy start and many new beginnings for them all.

It's the strangest feeling ever. This is something I've avoided my entire life, like the plague, but now, right here and's like a euphoria that I've never encountered before.

The other underlying story in the book was that of Fergie and Angel. With Fergie in a wheelchair would Angel be putting her own needs and desires of that of her mate? Rebecca who is skilled in healing would be person Angel would turn to, but would they do what was best for him?

She prayed feverently that he wouldn't be angry at her subterfuge. If he was it would kill her because the last thing she'd ever do was hurt the man she adored.

As with the two previous books I just couldn't put this down. But be warned it has the killer of all cliffhangers. I'm already anxious for book four but know that there is so much more still to read. What a brilliant third installment of this incredible series. I can't praise this book enough. The entire series is a "must read".

Jess McGlynn - Secrets of the River

**Review by Stacey

Some secrets simply can’t remain hidden...
When Isabelle moves to a sleepy riverside village in France she thinks she is being given a second chance.
Keen to leave behind the secrets of her past, she throws herself into village life where she meets cute American journalist Ed, rugged vineyard worker Matteo, and the dark and mysterious Hugo.
Life should be good, but Isabelle’s arrival acts as a catalyst in the village and she soon discovers she isn’t the only one trying to escape her past and that sometimes there are things which simply can’t remain hidden.
Isabelle must face her mistakes and rediscover herself in
this wonderful romance set against an idyllic backdrop.

We jump into Secrets of the River meeting Isabelle who has left behind her past in England to stay with her sister Martha and her husband Eric in France. Only Isabelle and her brother-in-law know the full extent of the secret she is leaving behind as she wants to head there with a fresh start.

Settling into French village life in the picturesque village of Brantome, Isabelle meets a whole variety of people with three men catching her attention - Matteo, Ed, and Hugo. They all have completely different personalities yet all have one thing in common - with each other and Isabelle - they are also hiding their own secrets. Brantome seems to be a village of secrets...

"I find the river so seductive. To think that it has probably been lazily winding its way through this part of the country for hundreds of years. Imagine how everything has changed around it but the river remains solid and steady. Imagine the secrets it must have heard, the things it has seen...".

I love Jess's writing through the story, the descriptions of Brantome especially, made me feel like I wanted to jump into the story and be there with them! I like that we discover throughout the story who has a secret and most of them tie in with each other, but we don't discover them until the end of the story which made me want to keep reading to discover them. There is nothing too dark involved though and it makes for a lovely happy ever after.

I must say it has actually been a while since I've read a non-sexual romance but it didn't make it any less wonderful, I loved it just as much both times I read it (as a BETA). A great holiday read with a definitive 4 of 5 stars from me.

A K Michaels - The Alpha Decides (Highland Wolf Clan #2)

**Review by Susan

Cameron Sinclair, multi-billionaire businessman, and now he is also the Alpha Wolf, a position he never wanted.
With his instinct to protect the Pack and those he cares for stampeding through his system, he struggles to awaken the white She-Wolf who now lies in a coma. Her fight to return from the darkness is one he watches closely, refusing to leave her side.
Just when he thinks that the Pack is safe, another threat rears its ugly head. A threat far worse than the one he’s dealt with, and one that could destroy not only his Pack, but the white She-Wolf. The emergence of a psychopathic killer is bad enough, but when that killer is an immortal Wolf the danger is tenfold.
Can Cameron do what he’d vowed never to do? Can he take on the role as Alpha and neutralize the threat? Or will he run, as far and as fast as he can?
Book 2 in the Highland Wolf Clan series. Paranormal Romance With A Bite

So after enjoying the first of the Highland Wolf Clan books so much I was desperate to read book two and A K Michaels didn't disappoint. Picking up where we left off we see the relationships we sense growing developing further...almost seeing the wolves turn into men finding their mates and growing into the individuals we knew they were.
Cam our main man, the Alpha (despite his resistance) is continually supported and backed by his friends. Some of which are more like brothers. But when the White wolf he fell for in book one sheds light on who kept her in fear amongst her darkest hour, trouble lies ahead. We see the packs pulling together and new blood being called upon.
The new wolf Mallory would cause heartache amongst the pack and shows a madness no one understands. But would Cam and his brothers be able to find him before he reaches the only family he has?

A truly mind blowing book. With laughter (mainly from me chuckling!), love, pain and loss. Not to mention the steamy sessions between the mating pairs! It's a brilliant read. I am already chasing Ava for book three!

A magical book of wolves, witches (and one nasty warlock!) which will take you to a whole other mystical world :)

An honour to read and a well deserved five star book.

Jack Silince - Sand

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Stacey

Thirty year old David Howard, on his regular morning run on the beach, receives a strange message written in the sand and so begins corresponding with an elusive stranger.
In an unusual series of events, he falls in love with his new pen-pal and things reach a climax when he demands to meet the stranger who calls himself Sand, the man who has made a profound difference to David’s life.
Unfortunately, tragedy strikes and David has to make a decision that will cause him to forsake his new-found love to spare him unnecessary sorrow.
In an ironic twist of fate, the situation changes and David realises that he has made a grave mistake.
Is it too late to make amends to the man he spurned, the man he truly loves?

After reading only one gay romance book previously which I absolutely loved, I went into this expecting something special, which is exactly what I got. We meet David who is happy with most aspects of his life, but the one thing missing is love. One day on his usual morning run he comes across a message written in the sand and begins regular correspondence with the stranger known as 'Sand'. At the same time he becomes friendly with his neighbour Nic who he has only just started communicating with after living opposite each other for a few years.

The messages in the sand are so meaningful and David & Sand begin to fall in love with each other. Likewise, the relationship between David & Nic becomes stronger and eventually they wish to become more than just friends and David is torn between the two of them. The sexual scenes between David & Nic are wonderfully written. There is a twist which I figured out pretty much straight away but it didn't make me want to stop reading, in fact it made me want to read more.

A man's heart knows no bounds. It is as wide as the never-ending sky and it is as deep as a bottomless ocean and it is quite capable of loving any number of people. I will be quite content with the love you bear for me and I will carry it with me forever.

Tragedy strikes upon David and he makes a decision that could destroy him and his loves forever. Little does he know that his love could actually save him, but will he find out and make a decision before it's too late?

A truly beautiful story of love which made my eyes water. A firm four of five stars from me.

Corinne Michaels - Consolation (Salvation #3)

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Stacey

Book One in the Consolation Duet

Liam wasn’t supposed to be my happily ever after.

He wasn’t even on my radar.

He was my husband’s best friend—forbidden.

But my husband is dead and I’m alone. I ache for him and I reach for Liam.

One night with Liam changed everything. Now I have to decide if I truly love him or if he’s just the consolation prize.

The story begins where we meet Natalie (Lee), wife to ex-SEAL Aaron (though Aaron is no longer a SEAL, his job entails visiting the same kind of situations). She is nearing the end of her pregnancy when she receives some devastating news that would change the course of her life forever - the worst news that a wife could possibly receive. I could feel her pain & emotion through the pages. Her best friend Reanelle is there by her side through it all - even at the birth of baby Aarabelle (I loved the acknowledgement of Aaron in this name).

That is, until another old friend starts hanging around and helping a lot more - Aaron's best friend (and fellow SEAL) Liam Dempsey. You can sense the attraction from the moment Liam arrives and you can tell Liam has always had feelings for Lee. Lee really tries to fight the attraction between them as she is worried what people will think - after only losing Aaron a few months ago and Liam being his best friend - but she can't hold off for long and they soon start to become much more than friends.

Liam. What can I say about Liam. Sigh. He is just a Dreamboat and I fell head over heels for him. Lee wants to take things slow and as much as he wants her, he is right by her side and ready to go at her pace and treats her like a princess. He just left me all warm and, well... I'll leave that to your imagination ;)

From the words and the feelings, it's too much. Liam has stolen every resolve I had to keep something for myself. He knows what I need and he gives it to me. With his body and with his words.

They are obviously both still grieving but get each other through. Things are going well until they receive the news that Liam has been called on a mission, and all of the feelings that come with being the partner of a SEAL come flooding back to Lee and she is scared. Scared of losing Liam like she did Aaron. There is a cliffhanger to this book and I just cannot wait for the next one - I need it now and have it on pre-order!

"...every second I'm away from you I'll feel like my heart is missing."

The story as a whole was just amazing and gave me goosebumps more than once. Consolation has now claimed its place in my top ten books, a definite five stars (six if I could give it!).

Jaimie Roberts - Redemption (Deviant #2)

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Susan

How could anyone move on from a betrayal so devastating, it cut down to the bone and rooted itself deep within? You could never forgive such heartache…

Or could you?

From the moment Tyler was six, she fell in love with that cocky eight-year-old boy with the black spiky hair, captivating blues eyes, and scruffy uniform. From the moment he punched a boy for hurting her, Tyler knew there was no going back. They were always meant to be together...

Then everything changed. The stage was set like a tragic Shakespearean play, and Tyler’s and Dean’s world—as they knew it—had ended.

Or had it?

My name was Jessica now. I faked my own death, changed my identity, and moved thousands of miles across the ocean just to escape the one man I would never get out of my heart. I had a four-year-old son I adored more than anything in the world. On one fateful, horrific night, the life I knew disappeared in the blink of an eye. I left people behind. People I cared about. People I would never forget. People I loved.

But had I truly moved on?

No one said leaving behind the one man you had loved since you were six would be easy. I lived life day-to-day. I even met a man and tried to settle down. Evan was a man any woman would desire. So why could I not love him the way he obviously loved me? Why couldn’t I move past the dark-haired, blue-eyed boy who consumed my every thought? I may have left him, but he had never truly left me.

I could never love another man. Dean made sure of that the day he breezed into my life. I was only half a woman now. I had been broken and bruised by the one man I thought I could always love and trust. How could I let go of something like that? I suppose I just had to. I was just getting by with each day that passed. I was coping. I was managing, and that was keeping me from falling apart.

But then disaster struck again. And it was on that day…

Everything changed.

You can’t hide forever, Tyler. I will always be hunting you, always be searching, and will never give up. If there was ever one certainty in your life, it was that. You slipped through my fingers, not once but twice. You took my heart with you when you left me that day. No amount of alcohol, women, or punching bags would block you from my mind. You couldn’t be dead. I wouldn’t allow you to be dead. You’re out there somewhere. I must congratulate you that you had evaded me for this long. You always were a smart girl. How could I not have fallen in love with you? You did escape me this time, but I will find you, Tyler. I promise you that. And when that day comes…

I will finally make you MINE.

I was so excited about this book. The follow up to Jaimie Roberts 'Deviant' story was just brilliant. Completely different but no less compelling. Returning to Tyler and Dean's story was heartbreakingly brilliant. The life Tyler had set up would soon be disrupted by her true love. But could she let the man who had hurt her so badly back into her new life. Meet what truly was his?

"Hindsight is a f*****g wonderful thing.  Didn't you just love that word?....didn't you wish you could take hindsight, kick it in the b*****ks, and shove it up its own ass?"

The brilliant Jaimie Roberts mixes her sense of humour with some of the darkest emotions of her characters.  Meeting Tara and Jimmy and their developing relationship was also brilliant.  The relationships that grew seen the group bond together not just as friends, but as family.  But the heartache wouldn't be over.  Deans past had always been a concern for Tyler.  But could he escape it at the other side of the world?

"...You can't fix the agonising pain I feel on a daily can't undo what's been done."

Jimmy and Dean are an incredible duo and bounce of one another so well. My heart was in my mouth for them on a few occasions but they grew more like brothers over the course of the book. It was just brilliant.

After all the heartache and obstacles put in their way would both Dean and Jimmy find their happily ever after? Please go one click this incredible book. I can't recommend it enough. Jaimie Roberts is an incredibly talented author and I can't wait to see what she has coming up next!

Jaimie Roberts - Deviant (Deviant #1)

Most fairy tales end with a happily ever after.

This is not a fairy tale. He is not her Prince Charming about to whisk her away into the sunset. This is a story about betrayal, lust, desire and, ultimately, revenge...

And revenge can only lead to one thing.

He was my stranger, my visitor, my shadow in the corner of my room. He stalked me, watched me, knew everything about me. But all I could do was sit and wait. I waited for him to visit me night after night. He was becoming my addiction, my craving, my obsession. He knew every inch of me, but I knew nothing about him.

His calls himself Lotus and, as crazy as it sounds, I think I’m falling in love.

I wanted to take her, possess her, dominate her, and ruin her. I wanted to ravish her, please her, and consume her until I couldn’t take much more of her.

She will want me to kiss her. She will want me to hold her all night so that she feels a connection with me. I would make it so that she would seek me out in the dark. The one that satisfies her ultimate fantasy. A stranger who sneaks into her room. Someone who gives her the ultimate pleasure, but also seeks to give her ultimate pain. Pain she has never had to endure. Pain that will eat away at her until there is nothing left.

She was my nemesis, I was her lotus. And payback was a bitch.

Childhood sweethearts Tyler and Dean grow up and separate much to Tyler's dismay and heartache (the same can't be said about her parents) with no knowledge of where he has gone. But never allowing anyone close in the hope the one man she truly loved would return. But would he?

She pieces her life together and with her journalism career and her life and friends around her she leans about her "stranger" and his OCD at entering her flat and beginning his three years of learning about her.

I admit the storyline seemed a bit odd in the beginning - would I really let a stranger roam around my life and house knowing everything he wanted to?! It took some getting used to. But I admit after 40% I was hooked. The constant glimpse into their childhoods kept me interested to know why this stranger wanted his revenge on Tyler and learn about the anger he held.

"Tyler was my puppet and I was pulling all the fucking strings."

A strong sexual and very domineering content but a simply brilliant story which just continued to amaze me. I was so happy I stuck with the initial bewildering story line...the heartbreak of Tyler losing someone close, her hurt and rejection of this stranger who enters her life and leaves her hanging (sometimes at some unimaginable and unforgivable times) and the fear, distrust, power struggles and friendship. Wow it blew me away.

You seek havoc, but all you'll end up finding is despair.

The first book I've ever read that I initially almost wanted to dislike but actually fell head over heels with. My only complaint? Was that there should have been a better introduction between the lead characters but it didn't distract from the story.
A brilliant four star read and what an ending. A twist I wasn't expecting and I am so excited to read the next upcoming follow up book from Jaimie Roberts and bring you the next review!

Mandy Lou Dowson - Retribution

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Susan

Dark Romance. This book is not suggested for younger readers due to the sexually explicit content, violence and over all theme. This is not your typical romance, and will not appeal to all readers.

Three people irrevocably linked.
A heartless killer.
A shady businessman.
A woman caught in the cross-fire.

Braxton Alexander is a beast without remorse; a vessel filled with hate. Imprisoned for the murder of the one girl who loved him, now he is free.

Brycen Cole knows he must stop Braxton from taking everything he has and turning it to ash.

Gemma Woods has loved Brycen for years, but ever so slowly the happiness she once felt in the arms of her lover has turned to fear and resentment.

Braxton has one goal, one thought, and one mission – destroy Brycen Cole, by any means necessary.
He will not stop.
He will not fail.
Like a juggernaut, he will keep coming, destroying everything in his wake.

Brycen runs a successful corporation and provides a lot of pay-checks; he also has a shady past and a dark talent for hiding things.

Gemma spots the wolf in sheep’s clothing but cannot stop gravitating towards him again and again.

What happens when the lines between good and evil become blurred?
What happens when the one you love is the one you should fear?
What happens when the one you fear becomes the only one you can trust?

Mandy Lou Dowson's 'Retribution' had me hooked from the word go.

We meet Braxton Alexander and learn he had been sentenced for the death of his then girlfriend. But despite him being the bad boy we learn wasn't him surely?! This remains the question throughout but we know it haunts him. We know it's his reason for seeking out his enemy he holds so much contempt for.

Braxton has a score to settle with Brycen and he would feel the wrath of Braxton Alexander.

"Retribution would be his"

Braxton needed to get close enough to Brycen to execute his plan. He would do that under the alias Daegen. So that's what he would do. Close enough to gain his trust, access to his life, and Gem.

"The darkness in me craves your light. It's too fucking hard to deny."

I don't want to say too much more but I could literally rant about this book till the end of time. With the three different POVs made it all more fascinating in getting to know the characters all the more.

The dark twists and turns of the story continues throughout and there really is something for everyone in here. From the crime lord, to the violence, to the love story. All leading to the retribution of one man.

I can't give this book any higher praise. I loved it!
A 5* rating doesn't seem enough for Mandy's latest release.
