Amy-Beth - Mistaken Identity

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Stacey & Susan

When two worlds collide how many will survive?

I've been captured for six years and yet no one has bothered to help me, the one person I thought might of helped disappeared all of a sudden. Each day for the last six years i've had to deal with him touching me, telling me what he wants to do and I can't stand it.

I have to find out who she is and why she is free and I am here locked away and used as a puppet, I need to know everyone I love is ok. Although my gut instinct is telling me I may already be too late.

My name is Morgan and this is my story.

When I read the blurb of Mistaken Identity I was really intrigued; I've read a lot of crime/thriller/mystery before (it's one of my favourite genres) but nothing similar to this book, or anything by the author.

In Mistaken Identity we meet Morgan who has been held captive by Harry for six long years, and suffered grotesquely in his hands. She has been mistaken for someone else - Wyatt's girlfriend, Summer. (Wyatt is Harry's nephew). She eventually realises this but doesn't let on that she knows.

This is a short, quick read, with dark themes including rape and torture. The way Amy-Beth has written it though didn't gross me out, it just made me cringe a little and feel immensely sorry for Morgan. I like the way it is written from different viewpoints though some chapters seemed a little short.

The story does end on a cliffhanger and I now need to know what happens next! Four of five stars from me, a recommended read.

So this is my first read of Amy Beth's but I had been warned it was a little dark. The violence, and graphic sex scenes were sometimes a little hard to handle but I think it shows the authors ability to write. My only problem was the grammar and typos. These were a little distracting but didn't affect the story overall.

The story of the messed up world of the King family. Headed up by Harry and all the turmoil that follows him. With a girl captured and tortured, we see her spirit destroyed beyond belief as everything and everyone she loves is taken away from her. Along with her spirit to find a way out of the hell she lives in for years.

Her spirit is now damaged but I shall do everything in my power to build her back up and have her whole once more.

Harry has finally succeeded in cutting off all my ties to the outside world, to freedom. First Wyatt and now my mum, everyone has gone.

Bailey, Harry's son and who seems to be much like his father turns out to be the only person willing to comfort the poor girl they believe to be Summer...but at what price will his feelings for this young girl change things?

This is one cluster f**k of a mess I've got myself in and I really don't see a way out of it. Someone is going to get seriously hurt. I'm such an idiot for not sticking to the plan.

Kristy Kay - Breathe

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Susan

Kathryn James is a single mother whose world came crashing down when her husband was killed while deployed in Iraq. He was her first and only love. She rebuilt her life around her children, not wanting or needing anything or anyone else.
Daniel Kaehe was an A-list model turned actor who spent his entire life looking for an all-consuming love, but only finding women who wanted to be seen with him and didn’t care to look any closer.
A chance meeting throws these two un-likely souls together and the chemistry is immediate. Can they overcome their pasts to build a future together or will the past tear them apart?

So walking into Kristy Kay's 'Breathe' blind I didn't know what to expect. But I admit the first 35% took me a while to get my head around. But once I got there, the rest of the story flowed and I fell for the two main characters, Daniel and Kathryn.

Daniel, the famous actor would surely never fall for the single mother (& widow) Kathryn?! Well that's what she thought...Daniel knew upon first glance that she was the woman for him...

"I running through each moment that I had been with Kathryn, each smile, each touch, every emotion that she had brought out in me....none of them had touched me as deeply or as quickly as the women beside me had.  Had I finally found the one woman I could live with and love for the rest of my life? "

But their journey would be far from easy. And I think the gaps in their relationship made it hard for me to connect with emotionally in the beginning...this at a time they would go without one another, only to fall straight back into their pure adoration of one another the moment they reunited.
But with Daniel's history and fame there would be a storm brewing that would make Kathryn be the protective yet loving mother she was.  But finally let the first man after her husband's death many years ago to protect her..

As long as he was next to me I knew I was safe, I was protected even if I was at my weakest.

A turbulent path of learning, love, family trials and tribulations, psychotic exes and new friendships, the pair would finally accept their fate together. I didn't expect to love this story as much as I did. But by the end their love story had me hooked. And the sex?! I had no idea there was so much in this book! But it added to the physical element of their already hot emotional connection.

...but in this moment with this man, I didn't fear anything...I was more than enough for the first time in my life and I was going to enjoy every second of it.

The references to "breathe" also stuck with me....from that of the sheer pain Kathryn suffered in her body, or to the physical assault of her senses to the man she fell head over heels with upon entering the same space as him. The emotion Kristy Kay captured in her story was just incredible...

"Where you are is home, and I am finally home.  Now I can breathe."

A four star read....that I can't recommend enough...please go one click this story.

T A McKay - Into the Deep (Into The Series #1)

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Susan

Life is never easy.

Makenzie Pierce knows this better than anyone.

After losing everything that was important to her, her fiancĂ©, job and home, she is about to start her life all over again from nothing. One morning, a chance encounter seems to be changing her luck and at first it seems for the better … but is it?

Rocco Cole also knows only too well how hard life can be. After suffering a tragic accident, one which almost stole his life, his world imploded into a mess of both abuse and pain, leaving him nothing but a deeply broken man. Vowing to never trust or ever love again, could it really be possible for him to let someone in after only one meeting? Can a simple encounter change everything he ever believed about himself?

Makenzie is drawn to the chemistry between herself and Rocco, but as he continues to pull away from her, without any reason, she has to decide whether he is worth fighting for. Is she the one woman that can make him believe that he is worth something to someone? And can she be that someone? When she finally uncovers the truth, Mackenzie has to decide if she is the one who can help change the demons that live inside the man that she thinks she can so easily fall in love with.

Life is never easy, but sometimes the things you really want and need can be worth fighting for, even when you have to take a huge leap of faith and follow your heart, Into The Deep.

The story of Mackenzie had me hooked from the first page when we jump straight into her turmoil of a cheating ex and her picking up the pieces and starting her life elsewhere on her own. But it's not long before she's starting her new life, with a new job, new friendships and new feelings for someone new. With Mackenzies fear of water, her new job seems to keep her close to the stranger she met. Rocco. Oh, Rocco. What a man. He's beautifully damaged. Or so he's been told and believes. He runs from anything good because he believe he's not worthy.

"I thought it was the men who are meant to do all the chasing? Then chase me Rocco. I promise not to run, I'll let you catch me..."

But can Mackenzie make him find happiness again? Make him believe there is more for him and let her in?

"His past had shaped him, but it didn't define him."

A truly brilliant read and truly hot...the friendship between Rocco and Mason is heartwarming and he's the brother he never had. I'm excited to read the second book in T A Mckay's series 'Into the Dark' when we get a better glimpse into Mason and his hilarious ways.

K B Mallion - Hudson's Heart (A Novella)

**Review by Susan

Georgina Harris is fed up. She is bored with her job, and her social life; disillusioned with her life in general. On a particularly bad day, she quits her job and impulsively books a ranch holiday to Montana. Unsettled by her life, she is moved by the beauty of the Montana ranch, Prairie Point. With a new sense of belonging that she has never known before; she meets a mysterious, intensely charismatic cowboy, Dade Hudson. A cowboy who helps her discover the inner peace she has been longing for. A cowboy, who it seems, is fated to take her on the ride of her life… destination, Hudson’s Heart.

So a cowboy book...I knew of some hot Cowboys - but was I ready for a Western love story?! Truthfully I wasn't sure but this was so much more. Georgie leaves her mundane life after quitting her job and a heartbreaking 8 months previous to take a chance and travel. Just wanting a chance to be free and independent and have fun. But upon arriving at Prairie Point she meets the son of the ranch owners and everything changes. She falls head over heels for this handsome stranger. But would her two week stay be enough? Would he feel the same? An incredible story with love, friendship, kindness and acceptance. A moving novella I truly adored and got goosebumps reading.

"Once you have a Hudson's heart, it is yours forever..."

What more can I say other than to go one-click now!? Five star novella - would highly recommend!

E J Cownley - The Black Mass Brides

**Review by Susan

Have you ever turned down a date with a guy, only to have him torment you in your dreams?

Nothing good ever came of meeting an overly interested, handsome stranger in the woods. Ollie suspects there's more wrong with Zach than his unfortunate choice in first date locations. Ignore the perfect hair, flawless complexion and James Dean smile, and you're left with dead eyes and a bin bag full of body parts.

Plagued by horrible nightmares, strange occurrences and feelings of being watched, Ollie begins to wonder what Zach really is and whether he's working alone. Did she really did escape him that day in the woods, or is this the start of something far worse...

Ollie is a strong, independent woman who has a job at the local veterinarians and one day meets Zach. The cute but talked about character of her village. Was there any truth to the gossips?

Zach turned out to be much more than anyone expected and with Ollie frightened of the shadows (literally!) she ends up with more than she bargained for. But it would lead to her having so much more than she ever expected. Even if not through choice!

Would I go through it all again if I knew I’d come out the other end .... Hell yes!

A dark, twisty, paranormal novella at only 75 pages but well worth a read. The characters besides Ollie were hard to connect with and I felt there were some gaps in the story or maybe some more detail I would have liked to have seen but overall it didn't distract from the story at all.
3.5/5 star rating.

Stella Coulson - Whitby After Dark

*Contains adult/sensitive themes
**Review by Susan

Lenore Lee wants nothing more than to make new friends in her new town of Whitby, Yorkshire, and to forget about the disturbing dreams that hold her captive at night. But what she discovers in Whitby, might be even more disturbing than the dreams. Dreams which may hold the key to her survival in the hidden world of the Supernatural...

''Dreams of Death may be the only thing that can save her life''

Lenore is settling into her new school, new life and new friendships as she moves to Whitby with her mum and Stepfather, Adam. But the story line had me gripped from the first page. Her stepfather, Adam really would be everything he lived up to be. A true monster.

He played the role of family man so perfectly. He acted like he possessed compassion; he used to do odd jobs for elderly neighbors, fixing leaking taps and putting up shelves. He even used to be nice to me. He was the nearest thing I’d ever had to a father. Mum loved him so much. If she knew, it'd break her heart.

As Lenore gets closer to her new group of friends she learns more about herself and her new friends.
But would there be a happily ever after after all she had been subjected to?

I can't say I disliked this book, because I didn't. I love paranormal reads. But I don't think I had enough time to get a feel for the other characters. The story however was good. I just couldn't help but feel I wanted a bit more to fill in some of the faster paced parts.

3.5 star rating for this story and see where Stella Coulson takes this story next.

Emily Krat - Flawed and Damaged

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Susan

Two people haunted by their past...
The collision of two damaged hearts...

Meet Elizabeth Williams. She is at the airport on an important work assignment. If everything goes smoothly, after three years of hard work, she’ll get a promotion and a much-needed raise. Elizabeth is putting her life back on track after it was ripped out from under her feet four years ago when she lost her parents along with all her dreams. Standing here, she believes her life is going to change for the better any moment now. Nothing can go wrong, right?

Meet Ryan Price. He came to Moscow on business. Right now, Ryan is standing at the airport looking at a ‘present’ from his brother, judging by the sign a beautiful young woman is holding. Damn his brother for not cancelling this arrangement as Ryan asked.

Miscommunications and misunderstandings and a brilliant but painful love story begins.

There will be a scary flight, lovely breakfasts, long evening conversations, sharing a secret or two, discovering one another, a lot of laughter, tender moments and some tears, a fight and, of course, the I-am-ready-for-the-end-of-the-world kiss.

Somewhere along the way, they won’t be able to fight their feelings any longer.

For the first time in his life, Ryan will experience a different shade of lust. And for the first time in her life, Elizabeth will have to trust despite all of the times she has been hurt.

Will these two wounded lost souls find love, peace and comfort in each other or will they just break each other more? Is it a train wreck of a love story or a happily ever after?

This is a new adult book and is intended for readers who are at least 17 years old. Adult content/language/situations are inside.

The story of Elizabeth Williams and Ryan Price. It caught me off guard and what I thought would be a really simple story that I could see turned into something I can't describe. Something brilliant. The hurt from Liz's past and her fears of trusting people for them just to leave her and Ryan's fears of emotionally shutting people out because it's all he knows and was raised to abide by.

I admit I didn't like his pompous ways but the way the author provided both POV of the characters made me learn more about them than I could imagine.

I didn't expect to love this book as much as I did but it was so beautifully written and the journey the pair go on, finding acceptance over how they feel and their biggest hang up of 'trust' held them from accepting things with one another sooner.

It's not just your standard boy meets girl story. It's so much more. It gripped me and left me wanting more.

I can't wait to read the next installment from Emily Krat.
A well deserved 5 star book.

There is something about Ryan Price that draws me towards him. A rare and powerful pull I have no desire or strength to fight.

I know that he rarely lets his controlled mask slip and here he is - showing me all his emotions, showing that this is affecting him too...

M J Rutter - Reflections Found

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Susan

NYT bestselling author Andi Harper has been on a bumpy roller coaster ride. Her life spun around so fast she could hardly catch her breath. Losing the love of her life she began a new life with her childhood friend Mike only to discover that no matter how bad you want to, you can't grow to love someone. Deciding that she'd had enough of lies and secrets, she cuts her losses and leaves to begin another new life with her son Alex. But old eyes have come knocking at her door, is she staring at a ghost or is it who she fears it is?

How many times can you love and lose? How many times can you fall in love with the same man? Andi wishes someone would tell her, because her once bland life is now totally out of control and as she stares down the barrel of a gun, she wonders how the hell she got there?

Three years in the making, the sequel to Shadows Lost is finally here.

The continuation of Melissa Rutter's 'Shadows Lost' and the story of Andi picks up where we left her twelve months on...

We learn of Laine's past and what he had to cover up. The reason behind his hiding out for so long. What would lead to him missing his first child's first and many more. His heartache as Andi reached out for her best friend but never her true love, Mike.

As things spiral out of control for the newly found pair, the secrets they must keep to close family and friends in a bid to keep the new family safe are imperative. With only one or two exceptions knowing the truth. With that in mind Andi needed to know him as accept the life and restrictions that came with him.

With a drug cartel on the go, our speculations are raised as to who it might be within Andi's close circle. But boy, is this just the beginning of the story! The steamy sessions between reunited lovers, the kidnapping, the murders, the psychotic ex, the overdoses, the unending list of plots to do with their story is endless and I literally couldn't stop reading. But the one thing that flowed throughout was the sheer love this pair had...

"Our foundations, our roots started way back then, where I thought nothing would seperate us, and in truth nothing really had.  We were still connected, even while apart....not even death truly separated us...we were conjoined and nothing could tear us apart."

I don't want to say much more but all I can do is plead with you to read Shadows Lost and this incredible follow on because I can't praise them highly enough. I was hooked.

The easiest five star rating ever!
