Helen J Barnes - The Final Note (DJ, #1)

*Contains adult themes (sexual content)
**Review by Stacey

Dayton Scott loves three things in life. Mixing music. Producing music. The club scene. He embraces the DJ lifestyle, well, except for the meaningless sex and fast women.

Alannah Matthews hasn’t got time for men. She is on the verge of qualifying as a legal secretary and, frankly, she has had enough of men talking to her chest.

Their paths cross at a house party and they whip each other into a spin. They fall deep, hard and fast. But not everyone is happy. Enter, Regina Escarra. She runs Manchester’s hottest nightclub for her father, Dayton’s boss. She has wanted Dayton for a long time and has the contacts to make or break his career.

A once in a lifetime opportunity arises for Dayton and he wants Alannah by his side. But can she leave all she loves? Will Regina finally get her wish? Can Dayton make his mark on the music industry? It all comes down to - The Final Note.
DOES CONTAIN SEXUALLY EXPLICIT SCENES

I have to say I haven't read a book before with the main theme being music/DJ'ing, but as it was also a romantic read and I loved the cover (!) I thought I'd give it a go as I'm always open to discovering new genres.

In The Final Note we meet Alannah who is just finishing studying to become a legal secretary. The story starts on a night out with Alannah and her friends ending their evening at a house party, which is where Alannah meets Dayton - I loved their introduction to each other! They both hit it off straight away but as much as Alannah is hoping, neither of them make the first move and Alannah is disappointed that she never got his number. Just as she thinks she might have met the man of her dreams, her hopes are dashed.

Unbeknownst to Alannah, Dayton feels much the same as her and they become friends on social media, then finally exchange numbers... They start hanging out and eventually the spark between them ignites. Dayton is just adorable, he's a proper gent! Just when things are going great and they have fallen deep for each other, Alannah gets the job of her dreams; so does Dayton, but there's a catch - Dayton's is hundreds of miles away in London. Alannah is heartbroken as she doesn't want to move, you can really feel her emotion and sadness. As much as Dayton doesn't want to leave without her, she makes him follow his dream and suddenly they are without each other. They are both so lost.

------------------------------
"No, Alannah! You are my fucking everything. You're my first thought in a morning, my last before I sleep. Separation from you is a physically painful, I mean, proper pain. It's like I can't breathe or think straight. I can't function without you."
------------------------------

------------------------------
"Live in the now, Lana. The past is gone, the future unknown, so just be happy now".
------------------------------

Will either of them realise what they need to do, realise their true feelings and that you can't just let go of the one you love? Well you will have to read to find out! But what I can say is that I loved the epilogue, Helen manages to steer you off track and it's not what I expected.

I loved the way this was written, it was so laid back and all of the characters are really down to earth and people you could imagine in real life. It is a story full of humour, sadness, love, great sex, and music. A great read and a firm 4 of 5 stars from me.
