Rey vows to help Kat get out of the depression by getting her to go sightseeing and possibly open up. Will Kat allow Rey to help her? Can Kat get past the death of her family and allow someone into her heart? Will Rey's military career put a stop to a relationship before it starts?

Warning:  please have tissues and chocolate at the ready for this absolute tear jerker!

The story of Kat, a woman on the brink of simply existing, when all those around her she loved so dearly haven't. Five years on from losing her family, Kat decides to take a chance to rent out her Uncle's apartment in Portugal.

I think what was so heartbreaking in this story was just how much effort each daily task wore on Kat. How she just struggled with the easiest of tasks we all take for granted. But someone unexpected would walk back into her life and give her something to live for again.

------------------------------
She needed a friend to help her move on. I am going to be that friend. I am going to help her and maybe, just maybe, we can have our chance....I want and need to bring happiness into her life again.
------------------------------

Rey....well, what a man. I swear he has a heart of gold. And in helping Kat out of her despair, letting her open up to him, she lets down her guard and feels things for him they never believed would ever happen again.

But their journey wouldn't be an easy one. From Rey's military work, to dealing with their future relationship...the pair remain solid, committed and never let anything come between them and their happiness.

------------------------------
He needs to understand that our life will be fine, military or not. I love him more than life itself and nothing would get in the way of that. We can make anything work as long as we are together.
------------------------------

An easy, read which will touch your heart and leave you sobbing in utter turmoil or sheer happiness for the pair who truly deserved one another right from the start. No matter the obstacles they face, they will overcome them together. Highly recommend!

M J Rutter - Back to Innocence

*Contains adult themes (sexual assault truiggers)
**Review by Susan

For Daniel O'Toole his friends are his life. After losing his mother to cancer when he was nine years old, they were there for him. Raised by his three brothers and his father, Daniel longs for the love of his mother and his heart aches for her. Safe in the knowledge that one day they will be together again.

That was until one fateful night when the wrong choice changed his life forever. Held together by a secret that plagued his life and ate away at his soul; Daniel ran away, but now it’s time to face the music, this has gone on long enough. As a married man and a father himself, how will he find the strength to face this again?

A reunion with devastating consequences.

This story broke me - pure and simple. Ugly crying...the lot!
A story of brothers, surrounding Danny, his friends and family. Seeing the teenage boys we meet at the beginning who need to deal with secrets much bigger than themselves at 14.

As we learn of the trouble and experiences that shaped this group of friends I felt my heart break a little. And the devastation didn't end there...

------------------------------
This nightmare had made us all grow up very quickly and our innocence, the part of us that still believed in super heroes...the part of us that secretly wanted to stay a child forever; that was gone too.
------------------------------

As the boys all grow, separate, marry and raise families and all the problems that come with adulthood as well as the history they live with...will they crack under the pressure? Will the group remain as close with all the events that take place over the course of love, life and betrayal?

Danny's guilt seems to carry with him throughout. Initially around the death of his mother, the losses of his good friends, breakdowns of relationships, and massive multiple lies from those close to him. This poor man, who had already suffered at the hands of destruction on so many occasions already just never seemed to get a break. When would he find his happily ever after?

------------------------------
It's difficult to admit I am not perfect and that I have made a lot of mistakes. I only hope I can learn by them now...no more remorse over people who have slipped through my fingers and no more blame.
------------------------------

For me this entire story is about enduring, healing and becoming a survivor. Melissa wrote this so beautifully and as much as it was a long and difficult to handle book, in parts, it made for a breath taking read. A truly memorable book that I won't forget.

------------------------------
I'm a survivor, he made me a victim and I made me a survivor.

Addison Kline - Shadow Dancer (Shadow, #1)

*Review by Susan
**Contains adult themes

Some secrets should just stay buried. On the day Tristan Morrow is born her mother goes missing, prompting an investigation that produces no solid leads. Fast forward 15 years, and the Morrow family still doesn't know the truth behind Catherine Morrow’s disappearance. When 15 year old Tristan is required to write a biography on her mother for a school assignment, she learns the truth about her mother’s fate, and is hell-bent upon finding out who was responsible for her death. But when Tristan herself goes missing too, everyone is suspect, even her own father and boyfriend. Set in rural Fox Hollow, PA, Shadow Dancer unravels a web of lies, deceit, madness and corruption. Can investigators crack the case before Tristan meets the same fate as her mother? And who is responsible for the disappearances? There is much uncertainty as the investigation unfolds, but there is one thing that is certain: Tristan Morrow holds the master key to the entire riddle.

A gripping story so beautifully written by Addison Kline. This is the first of her books I've had the pleasure of reading but boy was it incredible.

------------------------------
She is a shadow dancer. Skirting the shadows, out of sight but rarely out of mind. There she would remain, waiting, watching, and forbidding him to make me a shadow dancer, too.
------------------------------

The family history slowly unravels as the Morrow's children get an assignment. The story of the Morrow family was one we would learn of throughout the story. One of love, loss and grief. But when Tristan goes missing there is only one suspect in her father's (Jack Marrow) mind.

------------------------------
It took every ounce of strength in Tristan's body not to scream. The figure spoke in a hoarse voice that she immediately recognized.
  "It's time."
------------------------------

Jack is a dedicated father and despite keeping the truth from his children around the circumstances surrounding their mother...he genuinely did it out of no malice...

------------------------------
Jack Excerpt:
....His intentions were not to have his children hate their mother...his intentions were to protect them from the horrible truth that occurred in the winter of 1981
------------------------------

The story would flit between the present (well set in 1997) and go back to the period surrounding Tristan's birth and days surrounding her mothers death.

------------------------------
I loved your mother. I still do. I would give up the world to have her back for a moment. No matter what anyone says to you, know that to be true.
------------------------------

We see a new police sergeant coming to town and she would be the beginning of more findings and see the true deceptions of the current officers. As well as being the lead officer in the case of missing Tristan would she be able to close the case of her mother, Catherine too?

------------------------------
If only I had known then...I would have put a stop to his madness.  He took an already fragile mind and applied just enough pressure for it to break completely...
------------------------------

A story that felt more like an action film and actually had me sitting on the edge of my seat for the last 40%.
I can't wait to read more in the series and so pleased that all I had heard about Addison's books were true and did not disappoint. A truly well earned five star read!

Michelle McLoughney - Odin (The Gods of Wrath Security Agency #1)

*Contains adult themes
**Review by Susan

Navy SEAL Odin Byrne believes in two things, the SEAL code of honor and the ability of his Team. When he loses one of his brothers-in-arms, he loses a part of himself. Starting afresh with his Team and back home in Boston, Odin has only one focus, his uncle Declan’s security and detective agency, ‘The Gods of Wrath.’ A new team member is the last thing Odin wants, especially an ex-con who is hot as hell and mouthy to boot. Fighting for control of his agency, his heart, and his damn hormones, isn’t easy. When a new case threatens those closest to him, Odin must work with his adversary to bring a murderer to justice. Simple, apart from the memory of his lips on hers, and that one hot night.

Jasmine McCarthy is starting a new life in Boston. After three years in an Irish prison for a crime committed by her ex-husband, she craves a new start, a new chance. When her friend Declan Byrne gifts her a part of his agency, Jasmine see it as her duty to join the team and follow his wishes, regardless of the opinion of her formidable new boss, Odin Byrne. The pig-head arrogant Ex-SEAL would be a lot easier to ignore, if she hadn’t already had a taste. Jasmine and Odin want nothing more than to stay the hell away from each other, if only chemistry and fate would play ball…

Odin, oh Odin. *sighs like a teenage girl with a crush*
He has to be my new favourite book hunk. The large in stature as well as personality, hunk of metal is Lieutenant commanding officer in charge of squad 3, Triton platoon, SEAL team 3 until the group of men who trusts dearly and considers a family, create the Gods of Wrath Security Agency.

Jasmine is a honest woman who got tied into the wrong family, after serving time she has the help of someone who creates her new identity and helps keep her past there. But without his help, and a push for her to be involved in the Agency a one night stand becomes so much more...

------------------------------
My heart wants something from her, something long forgotten, a feeling I haven't felt since my youth. A feeling of hopeful belonging.  I would kill to protect her, I would kill to possess her...
------------------------------

Can she prove her worth when Odin and the team discover Jasmine's past? Can she ever be a part of the agency and the tight knit group?

------------------------------
You know this is not ending here, J, not a damn chance this is ending here. This is just the beginning.
------------------------------

They way Odin and Jasmine bounce off one another is brilliant and their chemistry more so! The clever wit and humour throughout had me gasping for air in amongst my fits of giggles and also fearing for what lay ahead for the pair who have such major challenges trusting. But their relationship is what made this book for me.

------------------------------
The real criminals of society wear suits and ties. I promised myself there and then that I'd never fall for another man, never trust another one either.
------------------------------

There really is something for everyone from the action packed work of the agency to the seriously hot scenes that will leave you wanting more.

------------------------------
Jasmine McCarthy is my own private cyclone, she rocks me off my feet and leaves me searching for a place to hide from the force of my feelings for her.
------------------------------

As my first read from Michelle McLoughney I was astounded at the humour alongside some seriously tough scenes wishing happiness for the two lead characters. And boy do they take you on a journey. Michelle's writing blew me away with her level of attention detail and plain beauty despite the pair having both seen such horror. It has to be one of my favourite reads of 2016 so far!

------------------------------
"Sometimes you miss what's in front of you because you fight the feelings, feelings you think you don't deserve.  I don't want to miss what's in front of me.  Some days you just have to put your mistakes away for a while and let good things happen.
------------------------------

You have to read this book! Next in the series is Trig and I can't wait to get my hand on him ;)
